Your Area Rug resource online
An area rug is an important element when decorating; the right rug can change the mood of a room. For a lot less money than a room of new furniture, an area rug can give your room a whole new look. When looking for the right rug you have to keep in mind both your decorating and practical needs of the room. If you have kids or pets a rug constructed of man-made fibers is easy to clean while empty nesters might desire the sophistication of rugs made from natural materials.
When shopping for a rug, also make sure you choose the size that will best work for your needs. In your living room, leave twelve to fifteen inches exposed floor around the baseboard on all sides. Under dining and coffee tables, always make sure your rug is larger than your table. We recommend eight by ten rugs for most tables, but make sure to measure your table for the correct fit!
Remember padding when purchasing your new rug, padding protects your floor
surface, extends the lifetime of your rug, provides the comfort of cushioning
and keeps the rug from moving. If you are putting an area rug on top of
carpeting make sure you use a designed for carpet-to-carpet contact to prevent
color transference.
