Keeping Rugs in Place

There are several products on the market that keep area rugs from slipping and possibly causing injury. For hardwood floors, use rubber mats cut to size. For area rugs on wall-to-wall carpet, use a piece of sticky felt cut to size.

Double-stick tape comes in wider widths for rugs. One type is a regular tape, while the other has a mesh texture. Both are good for most types of rugs, except cotton or grass fibers. On the backs of heavier rugs and mats, such as grass doormats, apply a lattice of regular window or door caulking.
