Selecting the right area rug for a room can be daunting. Here are a few tips on choosing area rugs for their quality as well as their looks:

Choose your aesthetic:
The first things that should attract you to a particular rug are the color and pattern.

Watch out for bleeding:
Look carefully at the individual pieces of yarn. If the colors are bleeding from one to the next, it's almost certainly not high quality.

Choose natural fibers:
Wool and silk last longer and feel better underfoot than synthetic fibers such as nylon.

Check backing:
Take the rug and fold it so you can see the backing. The smaller amount of backing you see the higher density of the yarn and the better the quality.
